Tottenham v West Brom: Villas-Boas set for first Spurs win
Tottenham take on West Brom this weekend, with Andre Villas-Boas hoping for a maiden victory in front of his new home crowd.
Spurs have won their past two matches against the Baggies, and are heavily favoured at 1/2 to make it three from three here.
The game represents Villas-Boas’ first at White Hart Lane, and the Portuguese boss will be eager to impress after a less-than-stellar spell with Chelsea last year.
Their visitors will be no pushovers however, and despite failing to win in their past five encounters with Tottenham, they could be in the best possible shape to end that run.
Steve Clarke’s men are 11/2 to triumph in London, and may see support in the aftermath of a 3-0 win over Liverpool last Saturday.
Those who feel that victory is beyond the Baggies though, could instead opt to back the draw, which is available at 3/1, and has occurred twice since 2010.
A deterrent for West Brom backers though, will be the fact that Tottenham are always likely to rack up an impressive goal haul at White Hart Lane.
Indeed, only three clubs scored more home goals than Spurs last season, and so the hosts appear decent prospects at 11/10 to score two or three times in the match.
2-0 was the scoreline by which Tottenham most regularly won by last term, and is 13/2 to occur again here.
Meanwhile, Spurs triumphed 3-1 in five home games last season, with that scoreline a 10/1 chance here, whilst Tottenham are 5/4 to win a game featuring three or more goals.
Also, Villas-Boas’ charges will be buoyed by the return of Emmanuel Adebayor, who is 10/3 favourite to break the deadlock after signing a permanent White Hart Lane deal this week.
Jermain Defoe could retain a starting berth for Spurs too, and he is 4/1 to follow up his strike last weekend with the opener here.
For the visitors, Romelu Lukaku and Peter Odemwingie head the betting, with each afforded an 8/1 price to notch first.
