Southend away success can lead League Two accumulator home

Published:

With each English football division now back in full swing, we believe we have selected four midweek winners in League Two at over 28/1.

Southend are our first picks, as big 5/2 chances away from home to Oxford.

Paul Sturrock’s men are a leading fancy for promotion this term, after play-off failure last season, though their 1-0 loss at home to Accrington Stanley on Saturday was disappointing.

That said, the Shrimpers had the league’s best away record last season, racking up a superb 13 wins on the road en route to a fourth-place finish.

It should also be noted that Southend have emerged victorious in the past five encounters between these sides, three of which have come at the Kassam Stadium.

Our next selection is Aldershot Town, who, ever-improving under Dean Holdsworth, are 1/1 to beat Exeter at home.

The Shots have recorded eight straight wins in home matches against Exeter, with the Grecians failing to win at the Recreation Ground since way back in 1989.

Aldershot also recorded an impressive 2-0 win away to Plymouth on Saturday, whilst their opponents were soundly trounced 3-0 at home to Morecambe, solidifying the prospects of the hosts here.

Meanwhile, Morecambe appear good prospects to follow up their opening-day success with a win in front of their home fans, priced at 6/5.

They face a York side newly promoted from the Blue Square Premier, and one which struggled to immediately adapt when bested 3-1 at home to Wycombe on Saturday.

These sides have most traditionally met in a non-league capacity, though it could be worth noting that the Shrimps have lost just once in their last seven encounters with York.

Elsewhere, Chesterfield are our picks to round off the accumulator, as 10/11 shots to overcome Rochdale at the B2Net Stadium.

This was a League One fixture last season, in which Chesterfield were victorious, as they have been in their last three home meets with Dale.

Now back in League Two, the Spireites will hope to get off to a winning start as they aim to replicate the sparkling home form that saw them crowned champions in 2010/2011.
