Punters predicting Rose will blossom with win at The Barclays

Punters correctly sided with Rory McIlroy to win the PGA Championship earlier this month and they are piling onto Justin Rose to claim victory at The Barclays.

All of the early money ahead of the first event of four to make up the FedEx Cup play-offs has almost all been on Rose, who is one of three players at 20/1 in the golf odds behind joint favourites McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

Players capable of finding greens in regulation should benefit from a big advantage in the tournament, with Bethpage Black being well recognised for its miniscule greens.

This is an area where Rose has the potential to thrive, given that he leads the PGA Tour statistics for 2012 in finding greens in regulation.

Another area where he ranks highly is adjusted scoring average and with Bethpage considered one of the tougher courses on the PGA Tour schedule, this could also make Rose a more likely winner.

Rose has enjoyed a relatively successful season on the PGA Tour, with a win at the Cadillac Championship well supported by six other top-ten finishes.

Meanwhile, he has been knocking at the door of late, with top fives at both the Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship.

This is worth noting as Ladbrokes are paying ¼ of the odds each-way on the top six places at the Barclays.

Given the length of the course and the added reliance on distance, there is every chance that Luke Donald may run into problems and this opens the door for Rose to lead the home charge.

It is 5/2 that Rose is the top English finisher at The Barclays, while it is 7/1 that he ends the event as the highest-placed European golfer.

Punters wanting to take less of a risk can alternatively get 10/11 that Rose beats Donald in a straight head-to-head across the four rounds in New York.
