Man Utd v Fulham: Home side to bounce back with tight win

Published:

Manchester United will be looking to avenge their opening-weekend defeat against Everton when they host Fulham at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are overwhelming favourites for the fixture, with little value to be found in the home side’s 3/10 price to win.

United’s history in this fixture suggests an easy victory is in store for the Red Devils, but the visitors’ recent blistering early-season form means they cannot be ignored.

Last year’s Premier League runners-up have defeated Fulham whilst keeping a clean sheet in each of their last five clashes at the Theatre of Dreams, and another win to nil can be backed at 11/10.

United have won 10 of 11 league games on home soil against Fulham, but Martin Jol’s side did put five past Norwich on the opening day.

A draw looks good value at 4/1, but perhaps there is more worth in the 9/4 price of both teams to score and Man Utd to win.

Those looking to back the away team can do so at a rather long 9/1, while punters fancying the Cottagers to nick three points might see legs in a 1-0 away victory at 20/1.

However, with Fergie’s side often bullish at home against their West London opponents, such a shock result may be unrealistic.

If the Scottish manager changes his line-up and starts new £24m signing Robin Van Persie, then the 7/2 odds for the Dutchman to open the scoring are tempting.

Wayne Rooney was disappointing against former club Everton, but he can be backed to return to form with a hat-trick at 16/1.

For Fulham, summer signing Mladen Petrić is priced at 9/1 to add to his double against Norwich by scoring first against Man Utd, and 3/1 to find the net at anytime.
