Lotus could claim first seasonal triumph at Belgian Grand Prix
Published:Lotus, eight-time Belgian Grand Prix winners, could have their best chance of a maiden seasonal win in next month’s race, considering their competing drivers.
Kimi Raikkonen will line up for the constructors, and having victored in this race on four previous occasions, he will see support at 6/1 to do so again next month.
Also partaking for Lotus will be Romain Grosjean, an 8/1 chance, and both will enter the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps race brimming with confidence.
Such belief will stem from their last Formula One outing, when each achieved a podium finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix, behind winner Lewis Hamilton, who is 5/2 favourite here.
The race will be of particular significance to Lotus though, who now sit only a point behind main rivals McLaren in the constructors’ championship with 192 points.
Meanwhile, Grosjean sits level with McLaren’s Jenson Button, 9/1 to triumph in Belgium, on 72 points in seventh place in the chase for the drivers’ championship.
His teammate Raikkonen enjoys a fifth-place standing, with his haul of 116 points just one inferior to McLaren driver Hamilton’s total.
Further twists are guaranteed as the contructors battle for supremacy, but this race could represent a great chance for Lotus to land a significant blow to their rivals.
Elsewhere among the other main competitors for the race, last year’s winner Sebastian Vettel will be popular with punters at 4/1.
Vettel’s season has currently not gone entirely to plan however, as the dual-time world champion sits in third place behind Red Bull teammate Mark Webber in the standings.
Australian Webber is far less favourable in the betting for this Grand Prix despite this, and is afforded a 10/1 price to be first past the checkered flag.
Current standings leader Fernando Alonso may prove a popular selection too meanwhile, at 6/1 to land a fourth seasonal triumph.
Ferrari’s 16 wins in this race dwarfs the total of any other manufacturer, and that bodes well for the Spaniard’s chances.
