Hope Powell’s women slashed to win Olympic gold in London

HOPE POWELL’S Team GB footballers are now the second favourites to secure Olympic gold according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies have slashed their odds of glory to just 4/1 after they beat hot pre-tournament favourites Brazil. The good news doesn’t stop there with Powell’s side odds-on at 7/10 to beat Canada in 90 minutes in their knock-out match in Coventry.

Ticketing remains a touchy subject at the games and as such the bookies make it odds-on at 1/2 that over a thousand tickets will remain unused for the match at the Ricoh Arena. It’s also just 3/1 that the previous Olympic record for attendance at a women’s match is broken, with those odds set to be slashed should GB make the final.

Hope Powell has also now been added to the next England manager betting at 1000/1 with shorter odds applying that she takes over at a Football League club (33/1) or a Premier League club (100/1) in the next ten years.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “After upsetting the odds against Brazil punters predict Powell’s side can go all the way. Should they make the final we’ll be slashing the odds Wembley will be packed to the rafters.”
