Frankel to make mockery of three rivals in Sussex Stakes

Published:

Frankel may have scared off the opposition in the Sussex Stakes and few would argue that the race will turn into a procession , but the chance to see the world’s greatest racehorse in action will not let down many fans.

Punters will struggle to turn much profit from Frankel, but the forecast with Farhh could offer some boost to the bank balance.

14:00 Goodwood – Cape Express @ 6/1

Picking the favourite is not the most adventurous strategy, but Cape Express looks to have plenty going for him in this 2m5f marathon.

Nicky Henderson’s runners always warrant respect on the Flat and the quality of two recent hurdles victories suggests that he can run to a higher official rating than the 84 he has been handed here.

Nafaath finished third over 2m4f at Ascot in June and has only risen 1lb for this result, which makes him a decent each-way selection.

14:35 Goodwood – Birdman @ 7/1

Birdman certainly appears the value bet as he is 3lb better off in the weights this time with Olympic Glory, despite finishing a head behind this opponent at Newmarket last month.

Favourites have won six of the last ten runnings of this race and so Ghurair has to be respected, although this is a big jump in grade from his success on his only start to date.

15:10 Goodwood – Frankel @ 1/20

Profits will be at a major minimum with Frankel, but it seems virtually impossible that his winning streak will extend to 12 races.

Pacemaker Bullet Train will ensure a strong enough gallop and Farhh looks the only plausible challenger, but he is racing for second.

15:45 Goodwood – Goodwood Atlantis @ 14/1

This has not been picked because of its name, but because he has been doing all of his best work in the closing stages of late and therefore should appreciate this step up to 1m4f.

Meanwhile, this looks a big price for a three-year-old from the John Dunlop team in what appears an open race.
