Farhh to chase home Frankel for second time in Juddmonte

Published:

We correctly identified Frankel to beat Farhh in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood as the forecast banker of the season earlier this month in this post and a repeat can now be expected in the Juddmonte at York.

However, this time the payout to punters should be far greater given that Frankel is not such a secure favourite at a paltry 1/8, while Farhh is currently 12/1.

With nine runners remaining in the Juddmonte field, if nothing else Farhh must be considered a worthy each-way price on what seems to represent a return to his favoured distance.

Farhh seemed short of acceleration when losing by six lengths to Frankel at Goodwood and will step back up to 1m2f for the Juddmonte.

This is the distance where he consecutively took home each-way money in Group One outings behind So you Think and Nathaniel and a repeat is on the cards against Frankel.

Godolphin’s racing manager Simon Crisford believes that the shorter distance was part of the cause for Farhh running below par in the Sussex Stakes, alongside not having fully gotten over a big performance in the Coral-Eclipse.

In terms of the betting, St Nicholas Abbey is the second favourites for the Juddmonte at 11/2, but has been beaten on both his attempts at the trip and clearly performs better over longer distances.

The rest of the opposition also seems inferior, which boosts the chances of Farhh finishing second.

Sri Putra regularly finishes in the midfield in the real top level races, Planteur is hard to fancy after running poorly at Royal Ascot and Twice Over finished almost three lengths behind Farhh in the Eclipse.

The fact that Twice Over may also be utilised in a way to help Frankel puts a further dent in his chances of defending the Juddmonte crown that he won 12 months ago.
