Everton and Villa handed easy-looking ties in Capital One Cup

Published:

Everton and Aston Villa are among the favourites to enter the Capital One Cup at the second-round stage and should enjoy a relative easy passage into the next round of the competition.

European involvement means that the real big guns enjoy a bye into round three, but Everton will fancy their chances of joining them as they have been pitted at home to Leyton Orient.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa square off with Tranmere and will have fond memories of meeting them in the competition.

Villa beat Tranmere on penalties in the semi finals in 1994 before going on to lift the trophy with victory over Manchester United in the final.

The draw was relatively kind to most Premier League clubs, with Norwich, Sunderland, Stoke, Reading and West Ham all playing at home to opposition in League One or below in the football pyramid.

In terms of potential upsets, Wigan will have to overcome a banana skin at Nottingham Forest, while Southampton and Fulham may be slightly nervous as they face trips to Stevenage and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

All games will take place in the week beginning August 27th.
