Chelsea favourites to be top London club after summer spree
Published:Chelsea are the big 4/6 favourites to be the top London club in the Premier League at the end of this season – and with good reason.
While they were largely disappointing in the league last term and finished third in the mini London league behind both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, the west London side have made several good signings this summer.
Spending big money on the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar has shown their commitment to attacking football and they now look good to build on the efforts of last season that saw them win the FA Cup and the Champions League.
They are also looking very solid at the back with both Gary Cahill and David Luiz performing brilliantly in the last few weeks of the season.
However, if you like your odds a little longer there is plenty of reason to think that Tottenham Hotspur can mount a season-long challenge at the top of the league.
They are currently 11/2 to finish highest of the London teams and with new boss Andre Villas-Boas sure to have learnt from his mistakes at Chelsea, Spurs look in great shape once again – especially as the rumours surrounding the future of Luka Modric seem to have died a death.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are second favourites at 15/8 to lead the London way but, with Robin van Persie’s future still very much undecided, it may be worth waiting to see what happens before lumping on.
The Gunners have also done good business this summer though and if Van Persie stays or Wenger gets an adequate replacement in, then they may be worth some serious consideration.
Finally, if you really fancy a long-odds punt, then Fulham are 66/1, while QPR and West Ham can be backed at 100/1 and 200/1 respectively.
