Vettel favoured for home success in German Grand Prix

Pre-season favourite to claim a third consecutive F1 Drivers’ championship, Sebastian Vettel’s campaign thus far has not gone entirely to plan, though he enjoys favouritism for today’s German Grand Prix at 9/4.

Vettel is currently perched in third place in the Formula One standings, but, somewhat surprisingly, his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber occupies a more lofty second position.

Indeed, Webber victored in last week’s British Grand Prix to move him within 13 points of leader Fernando Alonso, and 16 points clear of team-mate Vettel.

However, it should be noted that the most frequent winners of this race in the past are of German descent.

Legendary German drivers Rudolf Caracciola and Michael Schumacher have together recorded ten successes round this circuit, and Vettel will be eager to join such prestigious company as a winner on his native soil.

Punters who do feel Webber can continue to overshadow his team-mate though, can back the Australian to triumph for the third time this season at 6/1.

The competition between the drivers is proving extremely healthy for Red Bull in their bid for the constructors’ championship meanwhile, with the manufacturers opening up a huge 64-point gap to nearest rivals Ferrari.

Ferrari’s Alonso will see support from punters at 9/2 in this race though, considering his impressive seasonal form that has seen him claim two Grand Prix victories in 2012, and the fact that he has won this race on two occasions in the past also.

Elsewhere, patriotic punters will take an interest in Lewis Hamilton’s fortunes as he lines up for his 100th Grand Prix, aiming to build on the 92 points that see him stalking the leaders in fourth place.

Hamilton is 11/2 to follow up his sole triumph of the season so far, which came in Canada, with success at the Hockenheim track today.
