Spurs now chase Man Utd target after snapping up Vertonghen
Published:Robert Lewandowski has already been heavily linked with Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, but Tottenham are looking to steal in with a late swoop for the Borussia Dortmund striker.
Andre Villas-Boas has certainly not hung around when it comes to bringing new faces to White Hart Lane, with Gylfi Sigurdsson being followed to London by Jan Vertonghen.
Ajax have already confirmed the deal for their captain, who was also being tracked by Arsenal to play at centre half with fellow Belgian Thomas Vermaelen, with the transfer expected to cost Spurs £9m.
With a transfer kitty of around £50m to utilise, Villas-Boas has now sets his sights on a striker and it is Lewandowski that has emerged as leading target number one.
The Poland hitman netted 30 goals in Germany last season and also showed his capabilities at Euro 2012 when breaking the deadlock against Greece.
Dortmund have been consistent in stating that Lewandowski is not for sale at any price, but a concrete offer of £20m from Spurs would give them something to think about.
If Spurs fail to land Lewandowski, then they have not ruled out a move for Emmanuel Adebayor after his successful loan spell last season.
Adebayor still seems out of favour at Manchester City and they must be desperate to get his lofty wages off their books.
However, it is these same wage demands that look a stumbling block for all interesting parties, although Spurs may consider a cheeky low bid as a way of negating the overall costs.
