Real Madrid 1/2 to be destination for want-away Tottenham star

After two summers of continued speculation, intertwined with numerous transfer requests from the player himself, Luka Modric finally looks set to leave Tottenham, with Real Madrid 1/2 to snap up the midfielder.

The Spanish champions have emerged as favourites to land the playmaker, amidst Manchester United’s unwillingness to part with the £40m Spurs reportedly want for the Croatian.

That considered, the odds on the 26-year-old making the move to Old Trafford have drifted out to 5/1 from 2/1, despite widespread speculation he would link up with Sir Alex Ferguson as recently as last month.

Jose Mourinho now looks in pole position to land Modric, and add him to a legion of aesthetically pleasing midfield performers, with his Bernabeu ranks already including Mesut Ozil, Kaka and Xabi Alonso to name but a few.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy finally seems ready to admit defeat in his year-long battle to keep Modric at the club, in order to generate significant funds for new boss Andres Villas-Boas to spend.

And the fact that Gylfi Sigurdsson has completed his £6.8m switch from Hoffenheim only enhances the likelihood of Modric being allowed to leave for the right price.

As aforementioned, the Spurs chairman is hopeful of receiving around £40m for the playmaker’s services, though he may accept a slightly lower fee with future add-ons attached.

Only Real, Premier League champions Manchester City, and Chelsea would likely be able to afford such funds, and the hefty wages Modric would command too.

City are 6/1 to add the Croatia star to their revolution, whilst Chelsea, strongly linked with the player last summer, are 10/1 to secure his services this time round.

However, with the player now thought to prefer a move abroad, Los Blancos appear to be in primed to take him to La Liga, and triple his current £40,000 per week wages.

The possibility of a part-exchange arrangement is existent involving Real too, and a potential deal involving Nuri Sahin moving in the other direction may prove an appealing prospect for Spurs.

Either way, 1/2 odds are appealing about Modric plying his trade for the Spanish champions next term.
