Newcastle boss Pardew still interested in cut-price Andy Carroll
Published:Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew remains keen to bring Andy Carroll back to the north east – but only if the price is right.
However, Pardew has been talking down his interest in recent weeks and his latest comments are hardly indicative of a manager desperate to add the unwanted Liverpool striker to his ranks.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: “I think it was obvious as soon as Brendan Rodgers went into Liverpool that Andy’s time was going to have to be somewhere else. I think it’s quite right we’re involved in that.
“But whether he comes here is something I will take or I will leave.
“It’s a lot of money, although we’ll obviously be getting a big upside in terms of what we sold him for, and we’ve got three great strikers here already.”
Meanwhile, Newcastle are also thought to be chasing £15million-rated striker Loic Remy.
The France striker currently plays for Marseille but is entering the final year of his contract, with Newcastle hoping to bag him for a reduced sum.
The Magpies aren’t the only side interested in bagging the forward though and north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also thought to be chasing him.
However, with their growing contingent of French players, Newcastle look to be in the best position to get the highly-rated player.
Newcastle are currently out at 7/1 to finish in the Premier League top four this season which currently still looks a little beyond them with the likes of Chelsea strengthening their squad.
If they keep doing the good business they have been though, then a cheeky punt on them to make the Champions League spots may be worth some consideration.
