Murray to keep Wimbledon dream alive with 3-1 win over Ferrer

Andy Murray has run into a revitalised David Ferrer in their last two meetings, but he can gain a measure of revenge with a victory in the Wimbledon odds at 4/9.

Murray squared off with Ferrer at the same quarter-final stage at the French Open last month, losing comprehensively in four sets.

Meanwhile, he was also beaten on the hard courts of London by Ferrer at the end of last year during the round-robin stage of the ATP World Tour Finals.

Overall, the head-to-head record between the pair stands at 5-5, but this is the first time they will clash on grass.

Although historically not the best surface for Ferrer, with this year already representing his best performance, he did triumph in the Wimbedon tune-up event in Holland.

The Spaniard was additionally impressive in seeing off Andy Roddick in the third round and then perhaps even more so on his latest outing when disposing of Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets, without once having his serve broken.

Ferrer was allowed to dictate by moving both Roddick and Del Potro around the baseline and grinding down his opponents in long rallies, but this strategy will not be as rewarding against Murray.

Aside from last year’s London defeat, Murray has won all of the other five encounters on faster courts and this looks significant in his favour.

Both previous Grand Slam showdowns between the pair have been over in four sets and it is 12/5 that Murray prevails 3-1 this time.

Furthermore, with tie-breaks not particularly common when the duo meet, there may be some value in Murray fans backing the Brit at 8/15 to triumph conceding a 2.5 games handicap.

Ferrer is 7/4 to beat Murray again and move into the semi finals, where he would face the winner of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s match with Philipp Kohlscreiber.
