Hard to see beyond big favourite Serena for Wimbledon title

| 05.07.2012

Serena Williams is the massive 1/8 favourite for this Saturday’s women’s final at Wimbledon – and based on her form so far in the tournament it’s easy to see why.

Despite dropping sets in both the third and fourth round, the younger Williams sister was able to up her game in both her quarter and semi-final appearances, winning both comfortably in straight sets.

She was particularly impressive in her dismantling of Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in her last match. She smashed a tournament record 24 aces in that victory and her all-round game looked as good as it ever has done.

She has faced final opponent Agnieszka Radwanska twice in her career and has come out on top both times without dropping a set – including a 6-4, 6-0 hammering in the Wimbledon quarter finals in 2008.

Radwanska shouldn’t be discounted though and she also ploughed through her last two matches without dropping a set.

She made just six unforced errors in her semi-final win over Angelique Kerber and Williams will need to play somewhere near her best to claim her third Wimbledon title in four years.

Radwanska is 5/1 to win at the All England Club, which may prove tempting to some punters. However, a better bet may be to back Williams to come through and win 2-1 at 7/2.

Two of her four previous final wins have gone to three sets and, with Radwanska not giving away any cheap points, this could go all the way.
