Murray set for another classic with Gasquet at the French Open

Mr Roland Garros has maintained his usual dominance in chasing an Open Era record seventh French Open title, dropping only 17 games. Monaco by contrast went five sets in an epic encounter with Milos Raonic last time out and has won just ten games in seven prior sets against Nadal on clay. The Spaniard claimed five of those 6-1 and is 4/1 to seal the first on Monday by the same margin.

Richard Gasquet v Andy Murray
These two have had several pulsating contests in the past, Gasquet winning the latest in Rome last month, and the Frenchman’s odds of 5/4 demonstrate that this is easily Murray’s toughest test yet. A feature of this pair’s duels has been that the first-set winner has eventually lost three of their last four clashes. Murray is 7/2 to win from a set down, with Gasquet 5/1.

Klara Zakopalova v Maria Sharapova
Sharapova has been in frightening form so far, losing only five games in her first three matches, and with world number one Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams out will now be dreaming of a first Grand Slam in over four years to complete the set. Zakopalova has seen off Maria Kirilenko and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, but Sharapova is a 1/8 fancy to triumph 2-0.

Na Li v Yaroslava Shvedova
The champion has already matched her best Grand Slam performance since last year’s victory and with several top seeds falling and a qualifier for company on Monday, a successful title defence no longer feels improbable. Her Kazakhstani opponent hasn’t dropped a set yet though and was a surprise quarter-finalist in 2010, so it might take three sets for Li to prevail at 7/2.
