Ladbrokes best price on dangerous outsider Furyk at US Open

With Tiger Woods in form and favourite, Dustin Johnson taking the recent St Jude Classic title and Rickie Fowler showing signs of being ready to win a first major, 8/11 could represent big value that any of the home golfers wins the US Open.

In fact, ten of the top 15 names in the US Open odds are American and it is a player towards the foot of this particular list that it may prove especially wise to pay attention to.

Jim Furyk is 33/1 to win the US Open with Ladbrokes offering the top price and he knows what is required to win the major after his success in 2003.

Although some developments have taken place since, he also holds the advantage of having previously taken part in a major at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, finishing in a share of 14th behind Lee Janzen in the 1998 US Open.

Overall at the US Open, Furyk holds an admired record of five top-five finishes in just 17 starts and his form thus far in 2012 suggests that he is a contender to go close again.

Furyk may be without a victory this year and only registered three top-ten results from his 12 starts, but he has missed just one cut.

Furthermore, he has finished inside the top 25 on seven of his last eight starts.

Meanwhile, with the greens noted for being particularly small at The Olympic Club, small mistakes could be punished with dropped shots.

But Furyk leads the PGA Tour statistics this season in terms of bogey avoidance and his likelihood of dropping shots is limited by the fact that he sits second on tour in finding the fairway from the tee.

Other US Open betting markets that may appeal to Furyk fans are 3/1 that he secures a top-ten finish and 6/4 that he shoots the lowest first round of his three-ball that includes Sergio Garcia and Graeme McDowell.
