Everton boss odds-on for Spurs post after shock Redknapp exit

Even after a late-season collapse of form at Tottenham, it has still come as a surprise to see Harry Redknapp leave the club, and David Moyes 8/11 to take over.

Redknapp was widely touted for the vacant England post from February until the latter stages of the season, and a massive dip in Spurs form coincided with the rumours.

The former West Ham, Portsmouth and Southampton boss vehemently denied rumours he had quit at White Hart Lane on Tuesday, but club and manager have now confirmed they have parted ways.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Spurs and am proud of my achievements,” Redknapp told Tottenham’s offical website.

“I have had a fantastic four years with the club, at times the football has been breathtaking. I am sad to be leaving but wish to thank the players, staff and fans for their terrific support during my time there.”

It is thought that the 65-year-old was upset at chairman Daniel Levy’s reluctance to offer him a new long-term deal at Spurs, as his current contract had only a year left to run.

However, after failing to secure Champions League qualification despite a fourth-placed finish, Levy was reluctant to open negotiations with Redknapp, leading to his exit.

Everton manager Moyes is early favourite in the betting, and his 8/11 price sees him as a clear market leader.

After continued frustrations with a restricted budget at Goodison Park, he could be ready to make the move to North London, and kick on with a bid for European football amidst Levy’s full backing.

He has done a terrific job in his ten years on Merseyside, achieving consistent top half finishes with little to spend, whilst also achieving European qualification on several occasions too.

Moyes is comfortably ahead of next-in-the-betting Roberto Martinez, who is a 5/2 chance for the Spurs post, whilst ex-England boss Fabio Capello is a 5/1 shot.

It would seem that Moyes is the prime candidate for Tottenham though, and that an approach to Everton could soon be forthcoming.
