Youngster Tomic leads selections for day four at French Open

Published:

A wealth of betting opportunities continue to present themselves on day four of the French Open, with Bernard Tomic looking particularly generously priced at 4/5 to beat Santiago Giraldo.

Australian Tomic, just 19, claimed his first ever victory at Roland Garros on Tuesday, when conquering Austrian qualifier Andreas Haider-Maurer to celebrate a maiden Grand Slam seeding.

Prior to his arrival in Europe last month, Tomic had seldom triumphed on a clay surface, but has racked up a highly impressive seven wins on those courts since then.

His straight sets success over Haider-Maurer was the latest of those, and the 25th seed should have enough to overcome Colombian Giraldo, who he bested only two weeks ago in Rome.

Punters should also look to Juan Carlos Ferrero for value on day four matches, as the 32-year-old Spaniard aims to justify 11/8 odds to dispose of Marin Cilic at Roland Garros.

Ferrero, a former world number one, has experienced French Open success in the past, landing the trophy back in 2003.

His aggressive playing style is well-suited to the hard clay court he will compete on, and he can better a player who has never advanced past the fourth round of this tournament, in Cilic.

Meanwhile, in Wednesday’s women’s fixtures, Marion Bartoli looks a good thing at 4/9 to justify favouritism over Petra Martic.

Croatian Martic advanced past the first round in all Grand Slams barring the French Open last year, and Bartoli will be eager to improve on her 2011 run to the semi-final in this competition.

American Christina McHale also looks good value to overcome compatriot Lauren Davis in a second round clash.

McHale is 2/5 for victory, which appeals bearing in mind she has advanced past at least the second round during her last three Grand Slam appearances.

An accumulator on the aforementioned players returns over 7/1.
