Wigan v Wolves: Martinez’s men can finish on a high

Published:

This game always looked like being a final day dead rubber and that’s exactly the way it’s turned out.

However, rather than both of these teams doomed to relegation, it’s Wolves who are heading to the Championship, while Wigan, somewhat improbably, are safe from the drop following their win against Blackburn Rovers on Monday.

It’s been an incredible turnaround for Roberto Martinez’s men and they look set to keep up their good form all the way to the final whistle…

Match odds

Wigan head into this game as the big favourites at 4/7 and it’s hard to see beyond a win for the Latics.

Martinez’s men have been in fantastic form in recent weeks and have lost just two of their previous ten clashes, winning six of them.

They haven’t lost at the DW Stadium since a 2-0 defeat to Swansea City at the start of March and face a Wolves team who are yet to win under caretaker boss Terry Connor.

Wolves are 13 matches without a victory and are 5/1 to pick up all three points in this clash.

However, with Wolves drawing three of their last four, backing the draw looks tempting at 11/4.

Goal markets

In the 13 meetings between these sides there has never been a goalless draw and, with the previous two games yielding three and four goals respectively, goal look likely – especially as Wolves have the worst defence in the division.

Backing over 2.5 goals at 8/13 looks well worth consideration.

Finally, Hugo Rodallega has scored two in his last three starts against Wolves and he’s 9/2 to open the scoring in this clash.
