Terry may miss out as Hodgson prepares to name Euro 2012 squad

Roy Hodgson is prepared to submit his provisional Euro 2012 squad next Wednesday, with Chelsea captain John Terry a 4/7 shot to make the plane to Poland and Ukraine.

It appears increasingly likely however, that Hodgson will not select both Terry and Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand, with the former embroiled in a racism row with Rio’s brother Anton.

A court case looms over Terry, and improved post-January form from Ferdinand makes him look a good call to be included in the squad at 9/4.

In his initial press conference after his appointment, Hodgson did outline a will to speak to both Terry and Ferdinand regarding their attitude to co-existing in the same squad, but the selection of both now looks increasingly unlikely.

Hodgson’s appointment at England brings with it a host of potentially eyebrow-raising inclusions, some of which will come in light of his club management history.

Ben Foster, who has performed well under Hodgson on loan at West Brom this season, is 3/2 to claim a berth as Joe Hart’s understudy, and this looks an appealing prospect.

Meanwhile, striker Bobby Zamora is afforded a 2/1 chance to link up with Hodgson again as he did so successfully at Fulham, though Andy Carroll’s recent form could make him a better option at 4/7.

Elsewhere in the squad, club connections could count against Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson, whom Hodgson criticised openly during his time in charge at Anfield.

Johnson is 4/7 to make the squad, but Manchester City right-back Micah Richards could prove a worthy alternative at 5/4, after performing consistently throughout his club’s title-challenging campaign.

Paul Scholes has played himself back into contention for the other Manchester title challengers as well, though he would need to be persuaded to exit international retirement to justify his 16/1 price for squad inclusion.

In Hodgson’s final game in charge of West Brom too, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hopeful of proving a point as Arsenal visit the Hawthorns.

The attacking midfielder could prove a wildcard selection at 9/2.
