Swansea and Dortmund bosses strong in Liverpool manager betting

As talks between Roberto Martinez and Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group continue, the Spanish manager is odds-on at 4/5 to take charge at Anfield.

It was widely believed last week that Martinez had been offered the job by owner John W Henry, with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan stating he needed clarification on the 38-year-old’s future by this coming Thursday.

With Merseyside press now reporting that such happenings may have been exaggerated though, Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers is seeing support at 5/4 for the post, whilst Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is also being backed as a 5/2 chance.

Rodgers initially turned down the opportunity to speak to Fenway Sports Group, citing a satisfaction with his current role at Swansea as a means to justify his decision.
However, with it now emerging that he is a very serious contender to take charge at Anfield, he could be forced to reconsider his stance regarding the vacancy.
Klopp meanwhile, is held in high regard throughout Europe after landing back-to-back German titles with Dortmund, and steering them to a first domestic double in their history this past term.
The 44-year-old coach is fast building a reputation as one of the brightest up-and-coming managers in the world, and his experience in charge of a club as huge as Borussia Dortmund will do his chances of claiming the Liverpool job no harm whatsoever.
Liverpool’s owners are maintaining that they wish to speak to a vast array of potential candidates before making any appointment though, and Louis Van Gaal can also not be discounted in the betting.
A 16/1 shot, Van Gaal has been out of work since being exiting Bayern Munich last year, and is thought to be desired in a sporting director role on Merseyside.
However, the Dutch coach is keen to continue his management career, and would see Liverpool as an ideal challenge should he be considered to succeed Kenny Dalglish.
