Newcastle v Man City: a season-defining clash for both teams

Published:

With seven wins from their last eight games, it could surprise some to see Champions League hopefuls Newcastle as big as 4/1 to beat Manchester City this Sunday.

That price comes in light of City’s victory over Manchester United however, which has seen them reclaim their spot at the top of the league, and the leaders are 8/13 for an away win.

Two of the most attractive and impressive sides of this Premier League season could cancel each other out in the eyes of many though, with those of this opinion offered 3/1 odds about the draw.

Six of Newcastle’s last eight games have resulted in a Toon win to nil, and a triumph in this manner over City would surely be their most impressive result of the season, though 15/2 odds show the perceived unlikeliness of that outcome.

City are afforded a much shorter price to achieve this feat however, and could win some support at 9/4, after winning three of their last four without conceding.

It looks more likely that both teams will find the net however, considering the 140-plus goals that they have racked up in combination this term, and it’s 4/6 that either defence is breached.

Indeed, City have scored more goals than any other side in the Premier League during this campaign, so may attract support at 13/8 to win a game featuring three or more goals.

Two wins from their two remaining fixtures will see the Citizens claim a maiden Premier League title, and they should be fired up to get at the Magpies from the off on Sunday.

With this in mind, they may prove a good call to lead at half-time and full-time at 11/8, whilst they are 5/2 to win both halves, as they have in three of their last four matches.

Roberto Mancini will look to Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez to power them over the finish line, with each of them a 4/1 hope for the first goal.

Newcastle hero Papiss Cisse is a 7/1 shot meanwhile, which looks lengthy in light of his 13 goals in 12 games.
