MK Dons v Huddersfield: draw the only outcome in play-off battle

Published:

Huddersfield are no strangers to the League One play-offs as they prepare to take part for the third year in succession and there only seems one outcome for the first leg of their semi final with MK Dons.

The Terriers are certainly getting closer as they lost in the final to Peterborough last season, having been dumped out by Millwall in the semi-finals back in 2010.

If this sequence is to continue then they will finally secure their apparently overdue promotion to the Championship this time around.

However, the only logical outcome to the first leg of their semi final at MK Dons is a draw, which can be backed at 9/4.

Firstly, both league encounters between the pair this season ended in this manner, with 6/1 the price that the third successive meeting ends 1/1.

Furthermore, draws have been easily the most common results in Huddersfield away games during the current campaign, with 12 of their league games on the road ending in this fashion.

Meanwhile, three of their four play-off semi-final games across the past two seasons have finished level.

MK Dons finished fifth in the final league standings and three of their four home games with the teams to have finished above them were draws.

Huddersfield are also 9/4 to achieve victory and they have never been beaten at the stadium:mk since it opened in 2007.

The Dons will want to make home advantage count and they are 5/4 to take a victory into the second leg in Yorkshire.

In terms of picking the first scorer, it looks best to side with two former teammates from the Ipswich youth team.

Jordan Rhodes is 9/2 favourite to open the scoring and was the top scorer in League One across the regular season with 36 goals.

But he has failed to score in his last four Huddersfield appearances and so there may be some value in MK Dons frontman Dean Bowditch breaking the deadlock at 7/1.
