Man City favourites to retain Premier League title next season

Manchester City are favourites to retain their Premier League title next season after a dramatic final day that saw a record amount of bets placed.

With City losing 2-1 at home to Queens Park Rangers and Manchester United winning at Sunderland, it looked like being another Premier League crown for Sir Alex Ferguson and his men.

However, goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero in injury time saw City claim their first ever Premier League title on goal difference.

And it wasn’t just a good day for City supporters, with plenty of punters taking advantage of the most dramatic final day in recent memory.

Going into the incredible season finale City were 1/9 to lift the trophy and United could have been backed as big as 5/1, but that all changed no less than 50 times during in-play betting which saw over 1,500 bets placed a minute via mobile phones during the second half alone, making it the busiest betting climax the industry has ever known.

City are now at 11/8 to retain their title next season with United – who finished level on points with the Citizens – expected to challenge at 9/4.

Chelsea are next in the betting at 9/2 to win the Premier League, although there is still doubt over who will be in charge of the Blues come the start of the season.

There is a bit of a gap to Arsenal at 10/1 but they will surely be closer next season if they add to their already decent summer signings and keep top goalscorer Robin van Persie.

Finally, Liverpool and Spurs are both out at 20/1 while Norwich City are the least fancied and can be backed at a massive 5000/1.
