Khan to avenge controversial Peterson loss if fight goes ahead

Should the fight go ahead, Amir Khan will be attributed 1/4 odds to beat Lamont Peterson on May 19, and regain his IBF and WBA junior welterweight titles.

The bout has been cast into doubt, amidst a failed drugs test from Peterson, in which he tested positive for synthetic testosterone.

Khan’s manager remains confident that the fight will go ahead however, and those who fancy the Bolton-born ex-Olympian to win back his belts in emphatic fashion can back a Khan knockout win at 11/8.

Peterson’s December victory over Khan came in highly controversial fashion, as the hometown fighter was awarded a split decision success, after Khan was harshly deducted points twice during the fight.

It is 6/1 about another points success for Peterson in the upcoming bout, whilst the Washington brawler can be backed at 3/1 to win the fight by any means.

Proclamations that the initial fight was fixed have lit up the build for this rematch, as Khan’s trainer Freddy Roach has been very outspoken, amongst others, prior to Peterson’s agreement to fight again.

With that in mind, 10/11 odds for the fight not to go the distance could be worth taking on, as Khan aims to add to an impressive tally of 18 knockout wins from 28 professional fights.

The Englishman can alternatively be backed at 5/4 to win by decision or technical decision, but following the controversy of their initial meeting, he will be eager not to let the Las Vegas fight be decided by the judges.

Roach, Khan’s trainer, said he was informed his charge had won the initial bout, prior to revisions to the judges’ scorecards after the fight, so Khan will likely focus his efforts into achieving a KO win here.

At 11/8 to win by knockout or disqualification, Khan looks very tempting.
