Kaymer heads betting for the Volvo World Match Play
Published:The Volvo World Match Play tees off at Wentworth this Thursday with a host of top European players taking part – but it’s Martin Kaymer who leads the betting at 7/1.
The German has been solid if not spectacular in 2012 and has recorded four top tens already this season and finished a very respectable 15th at the Players Championship last weekend.
With the German rarely giving away any unnecessary shots, he will surely in the hunt – but there are some other attractive bets further down the betting.
Last year’s winner, Ian Poulter, is regarded as a match play specialist and got off to a brilliant start at Sawgrass last week. He was leading after the first round after an excellent 65 and recovered from a second round 76 to finish tied 25th at the Florida course.
He can be backed at 9/1 to become the first player to retain the title since Ernie Els in 2004.
Meanwhile, Justin Rose is second favourite at 8/1 and has already won this season.
He was less impressive at Sawgrass, finishing tied 51st, but he’s been very consistent, finishing in the top 25 in six of the ten PGA Tour events he’s played and is yet to miss a cut.
Finally, 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell is out at 12/1 to claim his maiden title of the year, while 2011 Masters winner Charl Scwartzel can be backed as the 8/1 joint second favourite with Rose.
