Holland star on Manchester City radar ahead of Euro 2012

After missing out on long-term target Eden Hazard earlier this week, Manchester City now appear primed to resurrect their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

It was long-believed that City’s financial might would attract Hazard to opt for an Eastlands switch, but his decision to join Chelsea now looks set to spark Roberto Mancini into action.

He is thought to be ready to launch a bid for Sneijder, who has been strongly linked with a move to City’s bitter rivals Manchester United for the past two summers.

Sir Alex Ferguson also made an attempt to bring Sneijder to Old Trafford this past January, but was scuppered by Inter’s stubbornness in the negotiating of a transfer fee.

Now though, it is City who have the most serious interest in the Dutchman, who has reportedly grown frustrated with underachievement at the San Siro since Jose Mourinho’s departure back in 2010.

The player is currently away on international duty with Holland, as his country prepares for Euro 2012, but he could welcome a concrete opportunity to move to England.

If the playmaker turns in as sparkling a series of displays at this tournament as he did at the 2010 World Cup though, his value could rocket, and so Inter may choose to wait until July to negotiate any deal.

Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport is currently reporting that £30million would be enough to secure the services of the Dutchman, who was a treble winner with Inter two years ago.

However, replication of the form that saw him score as many as anyone in his last major international tournament would surely see that fee rise.

Now 27, Sneijder is entering the peak years of his career, and even if his price tag was to increase, City could still meet Inter’s valuation to ensure they complete a marquee summer signing.
