Hamilton leads the betting for next step of Formula One at Monaco

The Monaco Grand Prix takes place tomorrow, with British driver Lewis Hamilton 10/3 to claim a first win of the season in France.

Hamilton currently sits third in the rankings, behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who each have a victory to their name this term.

Those two are closest to Hamilton in the betting, with Alonso a 9/2 shot, and Vettel 5/1 for French success.

However, Hamilton should certainly be considered by punters, especially in light of his triumph around the Monaco circuit back in 2008.

Also, in the aftermath of pit-stop troubles in Bahrain and Hamilton’s losing of pole position in Spain, his McLaren team will be desperate to make amends this time round.

Jenson Button may too see some support from patriotic punters, as he will be aiming to repeat his success of 2009 at this track, and he is 9/1 to do so.

Amongst other previous winners at the circuit, the aforementioned Alonso and Vettel are joined by 20/1 Red Bull driver Mark Webber, whilst Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher is 50/1, though his last victory came with Ferrari.

Kimi Raikkonen has also been first past the flag in France before, and is 5/1 to do so again, whilst Romain Grosjean, for the improving Lotus manufacturer, is 10/1 to add to a previous GP2 win at this track.

Pirelli’s much-maligned tyres will be a point of interest in the race, as they will have to cope with the tight corners and Armco barriers that characterise the course.

The race is notorious for its unpredictability, and as one of the most dangerous and unique circuits within the Formula One sector, maintains its place in the calendar with regards to its historical semblance with the competition.

With this in mind, a wide range of options look appealing prospects in the betting for the race winner, though Hamilton should definitely see patriotic support at that generous 10/3.
