Hamilton favourite for Monaco Grand Prix after Spain gains

Lewis Hamilton is the 7/2 favourite for the Monaco Grand Prix after a battling performance in Spain.

After being relegated to the back of the grid, Hamilton fought his way to eighth place finish as Pastor Moldonado became the fifth different driver to win the first five races of the season.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “We barely laid a penny on Moldonado after he made pole as no one expected him to hold on.

“The doubters were proved wrong and this season continues to throw surprises our way which is why we fancy another driver to claim victory at Monaco.”

Hamilton made only two pit stops as he produced an attacking performance that once again showed he is well worth consideration for the divers’ championship.

Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finished second as he and his team were outwitted in the pits by Moldonado and Williams who claimed their first race win since 2004.

Alonso is now 4/1 to win the Monaco Grand Prix and has been cut to 10/3 to win the championship.

Finally, Hamilton and Vettel – who finished sixth in Spain – are both in as the 11/4 favourites to win the title after solid performances.
