Everton v Newcastle: tough Toffees to silence crowing Magpies

Published:

Everton enter their final home game of the season on the back of three consecutive Goodison Park wins, so look massive at 5/4 to beat Newcastle on Sunday.

The nature of their visitors’ season makes such a price understandable however, with the fifth-placed Magpies 2/1 to follow up last week’s away win at Chelsea with another here.

Punters who feel the sides will cancel each other out can back the draw at 5/2 meanwhile, though it is worth noting that these teams haven’t drawn at Goodison Park since 2003.

During the 16 encounters in those last nine years though, only five have garnered results where both teams have failed to find the net, so the 4/6 odds for both to score this weekend appeal.

Newcastle are 9/2 to win a match in which both backlines are breached, whilst Everton are 10/3 shots to achieve the same feat.

Also, with the Toffees scoring 11 times in their last three home matches, all of which they were successful in, they may attract support at 16/5 to win a game involving three or more goals.

The attacking talents which each side brought in during January look good to make this somewhat of a goalfest, as Nikica Jelavic squares off against Papiss Cisse at Goodison.

Jelavic has notched ten times since signing from Rangers, and is 4/1 to score the opening goal as he has in three of Everton’s last five games.

Cisse meanwhile has stormed to 13 strikes in as many games, making him the most prolific striker in Premier League history in terms of his goals-to-minutes-on-pitch ratio.

His brace at Stamford Bridge last week included the deadlock breaker, and he is a 5/1 chance to net first this weekend.

In the reverse fixture at St. James’s Park earlier this season, Newcastle triumphed 2-1, and can be backed at 9/1 to do the same here.

Everton won by that scoreline last year though, and may be a better option to do so again at 8/1.
