Cheltenham v Crewe: Crewe to be celebrating lift to League One

Cheltenham have a phenomenal record in play-off encounters, but all good things must come to an end and it is in-form Crewe that can secure their promotion to League One at 6/4.

Crewe head to Wembley as the slight favourites to win the League Two final and this is despite the fact that they claimed the last of the four play-off spots.

Steve Davis’ men are unbeaten in their last 18 games and perhaps more importantly, they have dominated Cheltenham in their most recent meetings.

Crewe have triumphed in the last three against Cheltenham, including a memorable 8-1 success last season and two 1-0 victories in the current campaign.

Despite this losing sequence, there are grounds for Cheltenham fans to remain confident, especially as they have never been beaten in a play-off clash in their history.

Cheltenham were promoted via the play-offs in both 2002 and 2006 and are 9/5 to complete the hat-trick against Crewe.

Strangely, the last four League Two play-off finals have run in a sequence of either 3-2 or 1-0 successes.

With Stevenage beating Torquay 1-0 last season, this suggests Crewe will win 3-2 this year and this can be backed at 33/1.

The chances of this result occurring are boosted by the fact that Crewe have scored in all of their games during their unbeaten run, but have been prone to conceding goals throughout the season too.

Therefore, the 4/6 on offer that both teams score at Wembley may also represent good value.

In terms of the first goalscorer, Jermaine McGlashan scored in each of Cheltenham’s victories over Torquay in the semi finals and is 11/1 to break the deadlock at Wembley.

For Crewe, AJ Leitch-Smith is sure to be one of their biggest threats and he looks a decent bet at 7/1 to open the scoring.
