Big incentives for Liverpool to claim victory at Swansea

Swansea will hope to round off an impressive debut Premier League season on Sunday, attributed 12/5 odds to beat Liverpool and send their fans home happy.

The visiting Reds will have greater incentive to win the game at 11/10 however, with local bragging rights possibly up for grabs as they aim to overtake Everton in the league standings.

A draw could be enough for Kenny Dalglish’s men to overhaul their Merseyside counterparts meanwhile, should they suffer defeat at home to Newcastle, and that is a 12/5 chance.

These sides played out a goalless draw in their only previous Premier League meeting earlier in the season, though the recent results of either side would suggest that goals should be expected in this renewal.

Indeed, you would have to go back 14 league games to find Liverpool’s last goalless stalemate, whilst Swansea haven’t been involved in a match with no goals since last year.

What should spur a large proportion of the travelling Reds’ side on though, is this being their last competitive action before the naming of Euro 2012 squads.

English talent in particular will be inspired to perform well, ahead of the submitting of Roy Hodgson’s provisional squad on Wednesday.

Glen Johnson was criticised by Hodgson during his Liverpool tenure, so he will be eager to turn in a rousing display to prove a point to the new national boss.

Swansea’s own Scott Sinclair and Danny Graham will aim to turn in performances worthy of squad inclusion too, though the uncapped pair’s chances of an international call-up seem slim.

Liverpool’s end of season outings haven’t gone to plan recently, with a defeat and a draw closing their last two seasons, but they should give themselves every chance of beating Everton to seventh place this season by winning here.
