Woeful league run sees Liverpool’s Dalglish favourite for axe

Everything appeared rosy for Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish in February, but after securing their first silverware in six years, a dreadful run of league form has seen Dalglish installed as 4/1 joint-favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.

Liverpool have won just once in seven league outings since their Carling Cup success at Wembley, and that has led many to suggest that Dalglish may not be the right man to lead the club forward in the coming years.

Of course, the Reds have progressed to the FA Cup semi-final, and victory in this competition now looks as though it could be key to the Scotsman’s chances of remaining in his position at the helm.

As Dalglish is a bona-fide Liverpool legend, it would be a difficult task for the club’s American owners to act should they feel they need a fresh man in charge of the side, and they would need to act sensitively should they wish to relieve him of his duties.

Even the most ardent of Liverpool supporters would have to admit disappointment with their team’s performance in the Premier League this season, with struggles in front of goal, particularly at Anfield, extremely frustrating.

Such is the extent of their league difficulties, the Reds must now pick up at least four wins from their last six games to avoid recording their lowest ever points haul in the top flight in its current format.

With seven defeats in their last nine, that looks a monumental task, and serious question marks would have to be raised if Dalglish does go down in history as the man who steered them to their worst ever Premier League finish.

That said, it may be worth investing in the 4/1 odds for Dalglish to be the next Premier League manager to leave.
