Swansea v Newcastle: surprise packages to cancel each other out

Published:

Few would have predicted this fixture to be a meeting of top half sides at the start of the season, but the superb respective campaigns of either team makes Swansea vs Newcastle an intriguing clash, which the Swans are 7/5 to win.

A Champions League place is, quite incredibly, not out of the question for Newcastle, though the Europa League seems a more realistic option, and the Magpies are 15/8 to complete a seventh away win of the season to enhance their stop six claims.

However, the draw looks the most appealing option as a 23/10 chance, and this outcome has occurred on each of the past two times these sides have met, including the reverse fixture at St James’s Park earlier in the season.

Swansea have played out nine league draws to Newcastle’s eight this term too, and with either team averaging more than a goal per game respectively, a 1-1 scoreline could be the way to go at 6/1.

This was the result when the teams last met at the Liberty Stadium in 2010, and although that 6/1 is an appealing price, more cautious punters may take an interest in the 3/1 odds for a score draw.

It is also worth noting that Swansea have been level by the break in their past two home matches, and some could be inclined to back the draw at half-time and full-time here, priced at 9/2.

Newcastle have been ahead in a third of their games on the road by the half-time whistle however, and so the Toon to be leading at half-time but drawing at full-time looks a very appealing proposition at a big 14/1.

Papiss Cisse has settled in superbly on Tyneside, contributing five goals in his last three matches, and he is a 6/1 shot to notch the opener for a fourth game running here.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is on fire for the home side meanwhile, and the Icelandic midfielder will wish to add to his six goals in 11 games by breaking the deadlock at 8/1.
