Sunderland v Wolves: dismal run to continue for bottom side

Published:

Sunderland welcome Wolves to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, and the Mackems will never have a better chance of ending a recent hoodoo against them, when they are 8/15 for success.

Terry Connor’s side prop up the Premier League, winning just once in their last 19 league outings, but punters backing them at 5/1 will take solace in the fact that they have beaten Sunderland the past four times they have met.

It is 11/4 about the draw, but given Wolves’ dreadful record on the road, even this looks out of reach for the strugglers.

Defensive frailties have played a large part in the demise of Connor’s seemingly doomed side, and having conceded at least three goals in six of their past 12 league games, backing Sunderland to win a match involving three or more goals looks a good proposition at 1/1.

The fact that the away side have conceded five times in three of their last nine matches may also entice some punters to get behind the Black Cats to score four or more at 9/2, whilst the home team to register two or three times is a 1/1 chance.

Both teams have managed to find the net during the past 11 encounters of these two, and despite their recent dismal form, Wolves have notched in four of their past five games on the road, so the 8/11 odds for both teams to score again look appealing.

Those who fancy Sunderland exert dominance on their lowly opponents though, can back a home win to nil at odds of 13/8.

A masterstroke of Martin O’Neill’s management on Wearside has been his introduction to the first team of winger James McClean, and the exciting Irishman is an 8/1 shot to get the opener at the weekend.

Nicklas Bendtner is 4/1 favourite to break the deadlock meanwhile, and his impressive recent form would suggest he has chances of justifying this price.
