Sandown suited Dover’s Hill out to impress in Bet365 Gold Cup

This weekend’s showpiece over the fences at Sandown is the Bet365 Fold Cup, and one-horse trainer Mary Hambro will be hoping her only jumper Dover’s Hill can bring home the £150,000 prize at 12/1.

The horse got some valuable Sandown experience when running in a handicap chase last month, but his chances could be hampered as usual jockey Sam Twiston-Davies may find himself on the back of one of his father’s two entries, in the shape of 9/1 Major Malarkey or 25/1 Viking Blond.

Paul Nicholls will be looking to make it a double after bagging himself a National winner, and his top-weight Tidal Bay is at 8/1 to lead them home.

The champion trainer saw Neptune Collonges romp home in the world’s greatest steeplechase and he will be looking to score another triumph here at the Esher track, as not only does he have Tidal Bay but also 12/1 shot Aldertune gunning to secure him another win.

Emma Lavelle’s Ouzbeck is at 10/1 and despite not netting a win since back in 2010, the extreme test of stamina at Sandown may well suit him after he stayed on well to finish second at Newbury at the end of last month.

West End Rocker attracted a lot of attention at Aintree but failed to complete the race and is being given another run out here and could redeem himself at 9/1.

Fellow National runner Deep Purple is also set to run again and is priced at 12/1 to be the victor.

Galaxy Rock is the 6/1 favourite despite being pulled dup in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr, while Welsh National winner Lea Beau Bai is at 9/1 to secure a win in the 24 fence event.
