Spurs’ Redknapp new favourite to be next manager to depart

Harry Redknapp is now clear favourite to be the next man to leave his club at 6/4, sparking rumours that the Spurs boss has agreed to lead his country.

The former West Ham manager has been linked with the job since the departure of Italian Fabio Capello, who resigned in early February, but until now there had been no approach by the FA for the man who appeared the obvious choice.

The job will be offered to Redknapp as early as next week in the hope that he can work his magic in a short space of time and prepare a squad worthy of a strong showing at this summer’s European Championships.

Some on the Spurs board had started to become disillusioned with the run of form since talk of the Three Lions job emerged, with the club winning only two league games since early February.

There has been unrest from the playing staff with many key players complaining to the chairman Daniel Levy about a lack of preparation and tactics, with the manager’s mind appearing to be elsewhere.

Spurs had prepared a new £16million four year deal to make the Bournemouth based boss the highest paid in Tottenham history, but with knowledge of the imminent approach of the FA and the side’s poor run of form they are unlikely to try and tempt Redknapp with the contract.

The 65-year old is believed to want to take both Kevin Bond and Joe Jordan with him should he take the job, which would leave the London club facing a complete backroom shake-up.

However, the White Hart Lane outfit have already lined up Swansea supremo Brendan Rodgers to take over.

Originally a move for Jose Mourinho was believed to be on the cards but with the Portuguese likely to have many suitors Levy and the board have opted for the 39-year old Northern Irishman.

Spurs will have to stump up £5million if they are to buy Rodgers out of the contract he signed in January, but this should be no object to a club of their stature.
