Powerful strikers best first scorer options for Spurs v Chelsea
Published:Sunday’s FA Cup meeting between Tottenham and Chelsea will see some of the Premier League’s finest attacking talents on show, and Didier Drogba is 8/1 to continue his Wembley hot streak with the opener.
Drogba has scored six times in as many Chelsea appearances since the re-opening of the national stadium in 2007, and the first goal in a Carling Cup final against Spurs was accounted for in this run.
That strike came on the last occasion these teams squared off at Wembley, and only the more sporadic nature of his appearances in the Blues’ starting lineup these days could prove a deterrent to backing the Ivorian here.
Fernando Torres is the man who is often preferred to Drogba from the off nowadays, and the Spanish striker is 7/1 to break the deadlock on his first Wembley appearance.
The 28-year-old will be desperate to impress in his quest for a first piece of silverware in English football, and after hitting a brace in the quarter-final, he may be worth getting behind to notch first here.
Tottenham have an abundance of attacking threats also however, and it is rare to see Emmanuel Adebayor as lengthy as 7/1 to score the first goal of any game.
Adebayor too will be making his debut appearance at the national stadium, though he has stacks of big game experience, and it could pay dividends to back him for the opener on Sunday.
Likely to partner him up front for Spurs is Everton loanee Louis Saha, who does have history at the famous stadium, against Chelsea nonetheless.
Saha bagged the opening goal of the 2009 FA Cup final against the Blues, firing Everton ahead after just 25 seconds to record the fastest ever competition final strike.
He is an 8/1 shot to breach the Chelsea backline first in this year’s final too.
