A catalyst in Lille’s first title success for more than 50 years last season, Eden Hazard’s sparkling displays in that, and this campaign, have attracted interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have looked at the player, whilst Premier League outfits such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham are also believed to be considering a bid for the 21-year-old.

Manchester United are the latest club to be linked with the playmaker, who can operate out wide on either flank, as well as centrally behind a striker, and such versatility has caused Sir Alex Ferguson’s interest to peak.

Ferguson has in fact made a personal trip to France to see Hazard perform, as confirmed by Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen, which would appear to signify that the Belgian youngster is a priority signing come the summer.

United are thought to have long coveted the player, touted as ‘the next Cristiano Ronaldo’ in some circles, and Ferguson’s visit to watch Hazard is said to be the culmination of a lengthy scouting process, as it would cost the Scotsman around £30million to secure his services.

The player himself has been keen to indulge in rumours linking him with a switch abroad, and having outlined the English Premier League as his preferred destination, United could be in the driving seat to obtain his signature, given their wealthy history and global standing.

“After thinking about my next move, I’m leaning towards England. It’s a style of play that suits me and it’s there that you can learn the most,” he told Belgian television.

“I want to play for a big club, but also one where I will play every week.”

Whilst previous bids of over £20million have been rejected by Lille for their leading prospect, his apparent willingness to move looks certain to push through a deal this summer.
