Liverpool can end dreadful league run with win to nil

Two teams in woeful league form meet at Anfield on Saturday, and Liverpool can pile the pressure on Aston Villa by winning without conceding at 6/5.

The home side have lost six of their past seven league games, and with Champions League hopes surrendered, they need to pick up points quickly to ensure that they don’t finish the season with their lowest ever Premier League points total.

That said, the Reds have lost only twice at Anfield this term, and having conquered Villa without conceding in four of the past six meetings between the sides, they look good to do so again at that 6/5.

Alex McLeish’s travellers are in dreadful form themselves, winning just once in their past eight matches, in a run that has seen them descend perilously close to the drop zone, perched just five points ahead of 18th placed Blackburn.

Villa have struggled for goals on the road this term, finding the net just 16 times in a campaign that has seen them lose almost a third of all games on their travels.

They will meet a Liverpool side very stingy on their own turf, whose backline has been breached on only 12 occasions in 15 Anfield matches this term, and one desperate to breathe some life into a wayward domestic campaign.

Jose Manuel Reina’s dismissal in the Reds’ previous league outing will see him suspended for the visit of the Villains, and so Christian Doni will get the chance to make his Liverpool bow, desperate to impress by recording a clean sheet.

This looks a very achievable task for the Brazilian, considering that Villa have failed to find the net in half of their past six matches, and lack a cutting edge up front in the continued absence of the injured Darren Bent.

Liverpool triumphed 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, and look good value to win to nil again here at 6/5.
