Kean could finally go as further Blackburn protests are planned
Published:Blackburn Rovers fans have held concerns over Steve Kean’s management throughout the season, but as relegation seemingly beckons, he could now be a good bet at 10/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.
Alex McLeish currently leads the betting as a 9/2 chance to be the next boss to go, and a dire season has certainly done little to endear him to Villa fans, though he could survive based on his willingness to operate within a tight budget at the club.
Meanwhile, the FA have held off on making an approach for the new England manager as of yet, and so widely-tipped Harry Redknapp doesn’t look as appealing as he once did as the next man to exit at 5/1.
Kean would have looked a far-fetched call last month after leading a Rovers mini-revival, where three victories looked to have offset the threat of demotion to the Championship, but five consecutive defeats since have seen them descend back into the bottom three, as 2/7 shots to go down.
In light of this, and further troubles within the squad, most notably Gael Givet not being in “the right frame of mind” to play against Swansea at the weekend, fans have organised another protest ahead of Blackburn’s home match with Norwich on Saturday.
The protest will call into question Venky’s’ ownership of the club in addition to Kean’s management, and it does appear a longshot that Kean would be relieved of his duties at this stage, after surviving several similar protests over the course of the season.
However, as the club is fast running out of games and remain in perilous danger, the financial implications of relegation could finally hit home for the owners, and provoke them to take action.
Kean himself has said his side must obtain seven points from their final four matches, and with away trips to Tottenham and Chelsea to come, a failure to meet this total could very well spell the end of the Scotsman’s tenure at Ewood Park.
