Hamilton’s early pace should lead to Formula One drivers’ title

Lewis Hamilton may feel that he should have taken 50 points from the opening two Grand Prix of the Formula One season, but the early pace he has shown makes him the best bet at 7/4 to win the drivers’ title at this stage of the season.

It is difficult to totally gauge after only two races which cars are best positioned for the season, especially after the weather played a pivotal factor in the result of the recent Malaysian Grand Prix.

At present, Hamilton certainly looks the quickest on the grid, despite sitting second in the drivers’ championship behind Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.

The Brit has not only been among the quickest in free practice, but has qualified on pole in both Australia and Malaysia.

However, pit problems outside of his control can be blamed for the fact that he is still waiting for his first success of the season.

In Melbourne, his McLaren pit crew let him down by badly timing when Hamilton should re-fuel, as he was released back into heavy traffic on the track.

This cost him valuable time as he tried to navigate a way through the back markers.

Then having started from the front of the grid again in Australia, he was held up in two lengthy stops, meaning he spent far more time in the pit lane then many of his rivals at the head of proceedings.

Assuming he maintains his current pace, Hamilton’s luck and results will improve soon and he could build a nice advantage in the drivers’ standings over the next few races.

It is the Chinese Grand Prix next and this is a race that Hamilton not only won last year, but has secured victory in two of the last four years.

Hamilton is 9/4 favourite in the Formula One odds to win the Chinese Grand Prix.
