Grand National meeting Day One preview part two
Published:The second half of the opening day’s Aintree racing looks at the amateurs’ moment in the spotlight in the Fox Hunters Chase, while Al Ferof aims to bounce back from a disappointing Cheltenham.
15:40 – My Way De Solzen @ 6/1
My Way De Solzen may not be the same horse that formerly won the Arkle at Cheltenham, but he does retain some measure of ability and triumphed on his only start so far this season.
The fact that former professional jockey William Biddick is in the saddle must also be a positive over the challenging National fences.
Perhaps the big danger will be The Polomoche, who outclassed lesser opposition last time.
16:15 – De Boitron @ 14/1
Edgardo Sol will be well fancied after his strong finish in the County Hurdle, but he is yet to prove the same qualities over fences, while Tanks For That looks to be too high in the weights.
De Boitron found himself too far behind at Cheltenham before closing late and this smaller field and less demanding course can see him take closer order.
16:50 – Al Ferof @ 10/11
Al Ferof finally steps up to 2m4f and the trip extension has long been touted as being to his benefit.
He should have little trouble getting the better of Medermit, who finished ahead of him at Cheltenham.
The big danger could be improving mare Pepite Rose, who has been winning consistently in a lower grade, while Cristal Bonus may present a problem if putting his Festival shocker behind him.
17:25 – Our Father @ 8/1
Gallinbursti is highly rated and must have a chance, while Corkage will go close if allowed to wind it up from the front, despite a big rise in the handicap.
Spirit River has stamina concerns to prove and confidence issues to overcome following three falls in five starts, so slight preference is for Our Father who had not been out of the first two in four starts prior to Cheltenham and remains open to improvement.
