Contrasting plights makes for vital Tottenham and Blackburn clash

Tottenham host Blackburn on Sunday afternoon, desperate to get their bid for a top four place back on track with victory at 2/5.

Harry Redknapp’s men have been on a dismal run of form of late, and after being touted as title challengers a matter of months ago, they are now set to miss out on Champions League qualification should their run continue.

The business end of the season is now upon us, and Spurs desperately need to rescue what was such a promising season from becoming a non-entity, in the aftermath of their crushing FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

Their visitors are equally desperate for points meanwhile, but for very different reasons.

Blackburn Rovers currently sit in 19th place in the Premier League, three points from safety with only three games remaining.

Their manager Steve Kean proclaimed they needed seven points from their four remaining fixtures prior to a home success over Norwich last week, and they are 7/1 to make it two wins in a row at White Hart Lane.

It is 7/2 about the draw meanwhile, and whilst that would look a good result on paper for Rovers, one point is really not enough for either side, given their respective current plights.

A 2-0 triumph over Norwich at Ewood Park last weekend ended a run of five straight defeats for Blackburn, though Spurs’ recent league record has been equally unimpressive, having recorded just one win from their past nine games.

The fifth place standing that they currently hold would see them gain Europa League qualification, but having used that tournament for means of squad rotation during this campaign, they will strive for a top four finish.

Never will Spurs have a better chance to dispel their dismal recent form than with the visit of struggling Rovers, and they should get their Champions League bid back on track by completing a double over the Lancashire outfit at 2/5 here.
