Wigan could feel the brunt of Liverpool league frustrations

After surrendering a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at QPR on Wednesday night, Liverpool take on another relegation candidate in the form of Wigan on Saturday, in a match the Reds are 2/7 to win at Anfield.

Liverpool’s home form has been patchy all season, as despite only suffering one defeat, they have drawn more than half of their Anfield matches, often against lowly opposition.

They have struggled for goals on their own turf, with their recent 3-0 derby victory over Everton their most convincing home triumph of the season, but that could be set to change with the visit of Wigan.

The Latics concede an average of more than two goals per season on the road this term, and with the second-worst defensive record in the Premier League overall, Roberto Martinez’ men could be susceptible to a significant beating from a frustrated Liverpool outfit.

With criticism continuing to be levelled at the club amidst their lack of firepower in front of goal, the Reds will not get a better chance to record an emphatic home win, and it could be worth taking interest in the 5/2 odds for Liverpool to score four or more times on Saturday.

They have managed this feat twice in home cup ties, disposing of lower league opposition Brighton and Oldham 6-1 and 5-1 respectively, and are desperate to inject some life into an ailing Premier League campaign with a similar emphatic success.

Roberto Martinez’s visiting side have the fourth worst record on the road this term, and in their continued struggles to avoid relegation, their more tentative approach away from the DW Stadium can play into the hands of Liverpool.

Big 10/1 odds on a 4-0 home win could appeal to punters, with Liverpool solid defensively throughout the campaign.
