West Brom v Newcastle: expect goals as the Baggies host Magpies

Published:

Newcastle United travel south for this Sunday’s only Premier League game to face a West Bromwich Albion side who have been in very decent form over the past few months.

They have slipped up somewhat in recent games though and, with the Magpies chasing European football, Alan Pardew’s men will expect to win.

However, that will be easier said than done for the North East side…

Match odds

West Brom are the 11/8 favourites for this game and, after going six home games without a win, they have now won their last two – a 4-0 win against Sunderland and a 1-0 victory against Chelsea.

They can look back on a 3-2 win against Newcastle earlier in the season for confidence and, with the Magpies winning just two of their previous nine away games, they should come through to pick up all three points – especially as Newcastle haven’t won in their last six matches against the Baggies.

However, Pardew’s men shouldn’t be ruled out and they can be backed at 2/1 to get the win and at 9/4 to leave the Hawthorns with a point.

Goal markets

There hasn’t been a shortage of goals in the meetings between these sides in recent years, with all of their previous five encounters yielding at least four goals.

Backing over 2.5 goals looks a great bet at 4/5, while over 3.5 goals can be backed at 2/1.

Both teams have found the net in each of their previous eight meetings, making the 4/6 offered that both teams score look very tempting.

Finally, Demba Ba bagged a brace in the last game between these teams and he is 5/1 to open the scoring in this clash.
