Rooney Man Utd treble would put him back in Golden Boot frame

Manchester United welcome Fulham to Old Trafford tonight, and with games fast running out, a Wayne Rooney hat-trick at 6/1 could be the only thing that can propel him back into contention for the Premier League Golden Boot award.

United go into the game at 2/9 for success, and it is difficult to see anything other than a home triumph as they aim to open up a gap between them and second-place title rivals Manchester City.

In almost 50 years, the Red Devils have failed to beat Fulham at home in a league match only once, leading to the Cottagers’ astronomical 14/1 price for victory tonight, and Rooney will be essential to their chances against a side he has scored against eight times in 11 Manchester United appearances.

Rooney is currently a 5/1 shot to claim the Golden Boot, but those odds could decrease given that he looks good to add to his tally of 20 league goals tonight, and follow up the strike he netted in United’s 5-0 triumph at Craven Cottage earlier in the season.

The forward has notched two league hat-tricks amongst his 28 goals in all competitions so far, and another treble here would put him just three away from 1/10 Robin Van Persie’s leading total of 26 Premier League goals for the season.

Van Persie has also failed to score in each of his past two Arsenal matches, a feat almost unthinkable a few games ago, and with Rooney smashing in ten goals in his past ten appearances in all competitions, he could be hitting peak form at exactly the right time to overhaul his Dutch counterpart.

Punters can get 9/4 about Rooney opening the scoring tonight, whilst he is also the same price to close it, and it could be advisable to invest in these odds, thus further improving his chances of justifying that 5/1 price to win the Golden Boot.
