Pearce Robbed of England job after late Holland defeat

Published:

STUART PEARCE’S odds of becoming the permanent manager of England have drifted since losing to Holland, according to Ladbrokes.

The last-minute defeat to the Dutch has pushed Pearce out to 8/1 (from 5/1) leaving punters to still back Harry Redknapp for the job as the 1/6 favourite (from 1/5) to take over from Fabio Capello and lead England to Euro 2012 glory – where they’re currently 8/1 in the market.

Before the Holland match Scott Parker was chalked up at 11/2 to captain the team and his efforts have been well received, with punters piling in making him the even money favourite to wear the armband against France in June. Steven Gerrard has drifted to 11/8 and Joe Hart earns a 5/1 quote.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It looked like Pearce’s Dutch courage team talk at half time worked. But the late goal cost him dearly and punters are beginning to desert him.”

She added: “The odds suggest it’s a done deal. Redknapp will remain the name on everyone’s lips until the FA make an official statement.”
